INTRODUCTION

Well, Bugbabe (Anna) and her boyfriend Jon both finish university in June. So insted of doing the grown up and sensible thing and get a job, We have decided to make good use of what could possibly be our last long summer of freedom!
Therefore as VDUB nuts the only possible answer is to buy a splitty and travel around all over the place for three months !!!
We intend to visit a few of our favourite parts of the uk, like Newquay to do some surfin and body bording - Dartmoor to do some leterboxing - the Lake District to do some walking etc etc.
If we are able to buy our bus in time we are planing to go to Run To The Sun as a dry run at the end of may before we go traveling between July and September!
We are planning to update this page on a regular basis both before and during out trip with loads of pics of us and our bus, we will also continue to update the story of where we are and what we get up to!
I hope you enjoy our web site and would be pleased if you could return soon to see any new developments!

ENTRY 8 - 1 Year on - July 2003

Well one whole year has past since we set off on our adventure, we still have zippy and we are heading back to newquay for a weekend of surfing in august! Just wanted to finish the story really. We stayed in newquay until about the second week in September when it started to get a bit to wet, cold and empty of tourists to stay so we got a lift home on the back of (yet another) RAC van so we didnt do any more damage to our van which lets face it had seen quite alot of abuse for a 42 year old dub. The van was then put in storage for the winter before finally being fixed up ready for an MOT and a trip to stanford hall in may 2003. we have since been camping in the van at quite a few shows and the van is much better now. Thanks for reading our little story, we hope to do lots more travelling in our dubs and maybe one day will add to this page with some more travel storys! :) We would love to hear from anyone else travelling or about to travel in a dub, pick our brains so you dont take so much crap as we did and never used!

ENTRY 7 - Thursday 29th August 2002

So much has happend since our last update, we have been in newquay, cornwall since 17th July. We had broken down in dartmoor the day before we left and having to sleep in the awning while the bus got fixed, the gear linkage had broken but luckily it only cost £40 to get fixed!

we have been here for about 7 weeks, we have decided to stay where we are because the van has 'issues' and the beach is only 5 mins from the site we are staying at. While we have been here our awning has decided to snap the poles in half so we are now living out of the bus which we have actully found to be fine. It has also been Jon's birthday while we have been away (7th Aug) so we spent the evening in the mexican resturant in Newquay.

We have met lots of other vw's while we have been in newquay and we have taken as many pics as possible which you can see on our 'Dubs weve met' page. We met a relly nice young couple with a splitty and spent a night clubbing with them in Newqay. The first day we arrived in newquay we decided to blow our buget and buy a mini mal surf board. Since then we have spent lots of the hot days on the beach lounging on the beach, surfing and body boarding. While in sufing in watergate bay we have seen dolpins swimming around in a group of around ten about 3 or 4 times, we have also seen 4 seals basking in the sun in newquay harbour waiting for the fishing boats to come in to steal some fish!

In the last week we have also got engaged, jon proposed on the cliff walk at sunset and anna is now the proud owner of a huge diamond ring!!!

ENTRY 6 - Sunday 11th August 2002

Appologies for the lack of updates and information on our travels!! Watch this space. Unfortunately although we took the lap top with us, without electricity we haven't been able to charge it up to update. We have been in a few internet cafes but we can't upload there. We will endeavour to update the site as soon as we can though. We are still away and approaching our 7th week now. Having fun despite van troubles and broken awning!!!! Stay toooned ...

ENTRY 5 - Day 8, Monday 8th July 2002

Wow a week has flown by! It doesn't hardly seem like a week ago that we were getting ready to go and now look we have been away for a week. It has absolutely flown by and we are just glad that it wasn't just a week's holiday or we would have to be coming home. At least we are all chilled and over all the uni stress and things. Is still taking some adjusting to though. We are living in a permanent pigsty. Constantly shifting shit from one place to another! Although saying that it is predominantly all the food that we bought with us that doesn't really seem to be going down that much… oh except for the cookies!!! Hot chocolate and a cookie is a real comfort on these cold summer evenings.

We Have had a couple of really nice days so nice in fact that we both had red little noses and we were able to get out and about a lot more than we had been able to! Oh how things change and it wouldn't be Britain or at least Dartmoor without the complimentary rain. And oh how it has rained! We went to bed last night and it was nice, woke up this morning and the rain, sideways and every which ways, there was no escaping from it, it was set in for the day!! Like hardy nuts we decided to brave it and got all our walking clobber on and went for a walk the other side of Princetown. We were well and truly rained out and the mist came right down so we decide to head back down, luckily we took bearings on our way up or it could have been interesting!!!

On the way back to the campsite with little zippy battling through the rain, the windscreen wipers broke!!! ARRGGHHHHHHH!!!!! If it's not one thing it is another, but that is one of the joys of owning a classic. We stopped at the nearest layby which happened to be at Pixie Land. Jon started to fix it and a 70's bay pulled in with a couple in their late 40's who came over to lend a hand ( they came from Norfolk). We finally managed to fix it, the mechanism had slipped. We got back to the campsite and on closer inspection the mechanism had snapped! We have had to swap the wipers on the passenger side for the drivers until we can get hold of one!! Oh Joy!!! We I suppose it had been a week since the our last problem so it was inevitable really!!!

Any way other than the rain and that we are both well and enjoying ourselves. Done lots of walking and letter boxing and no arguments!!

Love to you all Anna & Jon xxxxx

ENTRY 4 - Day 3, Wednesday 3rd July 2002

After 2 whole days of continuous rain and a soggy camper and awning, it finally brightened up considerably. We got up fairly early, had a nice breakfast outside in the sun on the picnic table and set off for a days adventure around mid morning. We went to Pil Tor and surround rocks for a little walk and a spot of letterboxing. It was so nice to finally be out. We thought the rain was set in and would never stop, now that it has, we both feel an awful lot happier. We then went to Hay Tor but there were three coaches, all kids. So we had an ice-cream whilst looking at the scenery and then proceeded to Hound Tor where we had quite a bit of success letterboxing.

ENTRY 3 - Day 1, Monday 1st July 2002

On Sunday we had a family BBQ around my house with Jon and all his family. Everyone left around 7pm. I tried to get some sleep but, was just too excited. Jon came and picked me up at 11 and we were all ready at 11:30pm so we said our goodbyes and left. We got to the top of the raod and the bus concked out. There was still no go an hour later so we went to bed. Jon got up and checked again at 2am, still no joy so back to bed again we go. We got up at 6am and called the RAC, it was a blown fuse. By 10M we finally got on the road. Whilst driving along the M5 the bus started to loose power, we pulled over on to the hard shoulder and called the RAC. It was a live wire dangling on to the engine which had made the fuse go again. Finally we were back on the road again. At the next services we stopped at, there was an elderly couple who we really into our bus they stopped and had a chat they usedto own one when they were younger and now take pictures of everyone they see and collect them! It was very encouraging after the day we had had. Back on the road again and the heavens opened up! It was till rainig when we arrived at Ashburton (South Devon) at 7:30pm. We were quite a bit disheartened bit set up camp and cooked dinner together which it was 10pm by the time we got to eat it.
