I bought custard in December 2000. Originally I was going to use custard as my car while I had my little red beetle Eric repaired as he was in a pretty bad way! Unfortunately in April 2001 I had an accident in Eric which meant that I had to put him to rest for the time being as I couldn’t afford to repair him myself, instead I had to look for a new owner for him!

I had the suspension sorted. Firstly it was too low then when we altered it we had problems with the suspension and it just wouldn’t go right! Eventually we got it sorted and he now sits at a happy height to which I can get in my drive and go over speed bumps without scrapping the floor!

My dad took custard out for a drive to “see what it could do” he was ragging around so fast that the headlights rattled out so :New headlights


Tweaking of the engine! He had a 1600 engine in but had a dodgy cooling system so we changed for a 1300 engine kindly donated by little Eric beetle. The exhaust also got changed when we changed the engine.


New starter motor so I could at least start the car!!!

Custard is now my daily driver! We enjoy pootling along the road at our meagre 50 – 60 miles an hour depending on whether it is a cold day or windy as poor little custard doesn’t like either! We are perfectly undeterred on our way along the single carriage road that the bigger new cars are up our bottom egging us to go faster, we pull over expecting them to go past but no, they expect us to go faster, but we are going as fast as we can!!!!!!! Our new saying together is…
